The 2016 Liga das Américas was the major event that closed the season of the Americas Football Circuit, held in Rio de Janeiro. The competition featured teams from four countries: Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay, and Mexico, offering football fans an exciting showdown until the very last round. In the final, the team from Foz do Iguaçu, representing Brazil, triumphed over Maringá, also from Brazil, winning in a penalty shootout after a thrilling draw.

In addition to the title, Foz shone in other individual categories, with Dionata being named the best player of the tournament and Robson Neves receiving the best coach award. Juninho, from Maringá, was the tournament's top scorer, while Diego Andrade, from RCH Ecuador, was recognized as the best goalkeeper. The competition also featured renowned clubs like Atlético (Brazil), Nacional and Jovem Paysandu (Uruguay), and Napoli Torreón (Mexico).
